Your name has been brought forth through the WV- W MD Synod as a potential member of the Community Lutheran Partners, Inc. Board of Directors.  We hope that you will consider whether God is calling you to serve the church in this way, and whether you feel your gifts could benefit the process of building social ministry in the WV- W MD Synod. As we follow the process of gaining new members, we wanted to share some information with you concerning various roles and expectations of the Board.

CLP is a 501 (c) (3), not-for-profit, organization serving congregations, communities and persons in West Virginia and Western Maryland.  Our mission is: “Driven by God’s Word; Empowered through the sacraments; We are sent to serve in the heart of Appalachia”.  Our responsibilities include establishing policies, developing strategic plans, and selecting and evaluating an Executive Director. 

 

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend all Board meetings (4 annually with 1 retreat weekend);

  • Agree to serve 3 year term

  • Support CLP financially;

  • Provide leadership for Board committees and taskforces;

  • Promote CLP and its mission in his/her area of influence;

  • Participate in CLP fund-raising efforts;

  • Facilitate timely intra-Board communication;

  • Utilize personal gifts and abilities for the good of CLP.

The following is a basic description of duties and responsibilities for members of the Board of Directors of Community Lutheran Partners, Inc.  CLP is a 501 (c) (3), not-for-profit, organization serving congregations, communities and persons in West Virginia and Western Maryland.  Our mission is: “Driven by God’s Word; Empowered through the sacraments; We are sent to serve in the heart of Appalachia”.

 

Service on the CLP Board is both a privilege and a responsibility.  This job description seeks to describe both.

 

  1. We are a legal entity.There are three legal duties which are performed as we carry out our governing role:

 

  • Duty of Care – We act, as individuals and the Board as a whole, as any prudent person would in the same situation.

                 

  • Duty of Loyalty – We act in good faith and in the best interests of CLP.

 

  • Duty of Obedience – We act within the requirement of the law and within the CLP mission, bylaws, rules and regulations.

 

  1. Our responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Establishing policies that govern CLP operations and program

 

  • Developing strategic plans for CLP

 

  • Selecting and employing an Executive Director and evaluating the performance of the CEO on a regular basis

 

  • Serving as legal custodian for all tangible assets

 

  • Accepting full responsibility for the finances of CLP

 

  • Providing for the continuous self-evaluation and renewal of the Board

 

  • Assuring adequate funding in support of CLP programs

 

  • Providing for appropriate risk management of the organization

 

  1. It is expected that each Board member will:

 

  • Attend all Board meetings with a minimum of 80% participation annually

 

  • Support CLP financially

 

  • Provide leadership for Board committees and taskforces

 

  • Promote CLP and its mission in his/her area of influence

 

  • Participate in CLP fund-raising efforts
