LEADERSHIP GUIDELINES
Our desire is to be a healthy congregation of God's church which functions biblically in every sense: the way we carry out our mission, the way we relate to one another and the kind of people we are. We believe that ministry and leadership is a privilege, not a problem nor an obligation. Therefore, we seek to be the very best leaders we can be. To this end, we have established these Leadership Guidelines:
As a leader of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, giving our highest priority to living as a disciple of Christ, we will strive to :
- Be faithful servants, active in attendance, commitment and stewardship.
- Follow Christ in the qualities of our character, priorities and values – submitting ourselves to one another as Christ did for us.
- Grow and mature in our relationship with God
- Participate in the life of the church with regularity, using our spiritual gifts in ministry and living as faithful stewards of all our God-given resources (time, talents and treasures).
- Develop servants' hearts, exhibiting Christ-like humility, with a perspective centered on the cross.
- Deal with issues and conflicts with a Christ-like spirit in accordance with scriptural processes.
- Refrain from engaging in behaviors, habits, activities, or actions that would damage our witness, others, this ministry, and those we are being called to lead.
- Protect the unity of our ministry by acting in love toward others, refusing to gossip, belittle or put down others' ideas.
- Experience the forgiveness of Christ and openly share that forgiveness to others.
- Seek reconciliation when there is a broken relationship, and help to ensure that issues in the congregation are addressed directly with the people concerned.
- Debate issues fully, reach resolution, support the decision, and leave as friends
- Confess our sins and be witnesses to God's saving grace.
- Encourage others in the congregation to do likewise.
- Refrain from using E-mail to discuss personal relations or difficult questions
