SMALL GROUP MINISTRIES

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Romans 12:4-8

* Our New Banner!! (pictured above)
The small crosses were basted in place with long stitches. While they are shaped into the large cross, they still have some wiggle room (free will) for individual movement. They can also fray around the edge or curl under - don't we all. The basting stitch holds them all together and while it is possible for a cross to be removed, any departure would have an effect on the whole community.

As I stitched all of the individual little crosses into place on Thursday and Friday, I had plenty of time to reflect on the symbolisms in the piece. The banner is a patchwork of small crosses cut from fabric scraps from the individual members of Shepherd of the Hills community of faith. Just as each member is unique, each individual cross is special. They all (crosses and members alike) come with distinct gifts of color and pattern. And just as each is individually molded by God, the fabric pieces were all cut free hand so each one is a different size and shape. Separately, they are each beautiful, but together they make a joyful presence.

Constructing this banner has been both fun and a blessing to me. I pray it is a blessing to our congregation, also.
